2022 Fantasy Baseball: Saturday Streamers for 4/16

Jameson Taillon

Sticking with the “a lot goes into a list” theme here at RotoRanks, without preamble you can discover the pitchers I’d add if I was hunting for a streamer today. Let’s do it…

Carlos Carrasco (49%) vs Arizona Diamondbacks

The 35-year-old Carrasco looked like the Carrasco of old in his first turn (5.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K) and gets a great matchup against Arizona today. The D’backs have a 25.6% K-rate (sixth-worst) so far this season and a measly .135 BA and 59 wRC+. Both the batting average and the wRC+ are the worst marks in the league.

Jameson Taillon (34%) @ Baltimore Orioles

Taillon pitched well enough to win in his first turn, allowing just two runs over five innings to the mighty Blue Jays–he was undone by a George Springer home run. The final line was no walks against six strikeouts, and he worked up to 72 pitches…so we can expect a fairly deep run from him today and a great shot at a win against opposing starter Tyler Wells.

Matt Manning (10%) @ Kansas City Royals

Manning allowed just one hit against the Boston Red Sox in his first turn, a solo homer to J.D. Martinez. Otherwise, he was obviously solid (no walks, but just two strikeouts). The Royals haven’t struck out much this year–just 18.1%, a top five mark in MLB–but that comes with a mere four homers as a unit. The team’s .096 ISO is third-worst in the league, besting only the Nationals (.090) and the aforementioned Orioles (.087). Opposing starter Kris Bubic was roughed up for five runs in just two thirds of an inning in his first turn, so the Tigers could have a shot to get Manning the win today if he can pitch deep once again.

Other names to consider are Nick Martinez (9%) vs. the Atlanta Braves and Bryse Wilson (0%) vs. Washington Nationals. Martinez was an average MLB pitcher prior to his four years in Japan, but his first turn against the Giants was solid–five innings, five hits, one run, and one walk against six strikeouts. The Braves are NOT a team we want to stream against, though. Martinez is more of a stash play in my opinion.

As for Bryse Wilson (a former Brave) perhaps he can make use of the soft matchup against the Nationals today. But that’s a super deep league play. I’d much prefer to roll with the upside of Matt Manning.
