I found a nice spot at sportsgambler.com where I can easily visualize projected lineups and formations, which is really helpful to me as someone who is still getting the lay of the land with the Premier League. If you’re reading this and you’ve got a site you benefit from using, feel free to drop it in the comments or share with me on Twitter at @roto_ranks. I’m not blind from an understanding of footy standpoint, but from a tools standpoint I’m definitely still learning and amassing resources.
One more two-game slate today, then the real fun begins with four games on Saturday.
Timm Klose, Norwich City ($5)
Norwich City are down a couple of center backs, so in my mind they’re forced to at least start Klose, who is fit after a long layoff. He last started a match on Jan 1, 2019…but we’re talking about a defender here, not a box-to-box midfielder. Maybe I’m taking on too much risk, but at only $5 I can’t see passing up a chance to lock down one of my defender spots–and use that savings to pay up for another juicy attacker.
Danny Ings, Southampton ($18)
So Norwich City have allowed the second-most shots on goal this year and are down a pair of center backs. And it’s possible that the aforementioned Klose may not play the full match. Danny Ings ranks fifth in the PL with 15 goals, and ranks 13th in shots on the season, with 68. Only Teemi Pukki (74) and Marcus Rashford (74) have more shots among players on this two-game slate, for reference.
Marcus Rashford, Manchester United ($18)
This one is a pick from the heart. Rashford is tied for seventh in the PL with 74 shots this year. He’s also tied for sixth with 14 goals. But besides being a total stud on the pitch, Rashford is a stud human off the pitch. He recently campaigned for England’s food voucher program to extend through the summer, effectively using his platform as a footballer to put pressure on the government to take care of vulnerable children. Here’s a rare moment when you can play daily fantasy sports with your heart AND your head. Lock him in and let’s enjoy rooting for an awesome lad today.
I’m always thinking in pairs, so as I’m considering Ings I’m also thinking of James Ward-Prowse. As I’m considering Rashford, I’m looking at Bruno Fernandes as well, who was in excellent form prior to the Covid-19 layoff. Recent form can’t mean a whole lot right now, but still.
Lastly, “Vegas” is predicting more goals scored in the NOR/SOU match, which jives with me being a bit scared for Norwich City due to the Canaries being down a pair of center backs. On a two-game slate, it might make sense to consider a third attacker for the Saints in at least a few lineups. I’m still working out who that would be, but Che Adams at only $10 is dirt cheap for a striker, no matter how bad he’s been. But I’d much rather play the winger Nathan Redmond, who is against his old club in Norwich City. I dig that he’s a wide player who likes to cut inside, and that I can dream of one bang-bang play where Redmond feeds one into Danny Ings and I catch the assist and the goal on a single play. I’ll just need to verify he’s starting before locking him in.
Overall, I really like the Southampton guys given that Manchester United will probably be more popular but in a tougher draw.
What say you all? I’m still working through the best combinations as I dip my toes into EPL DFS. I’d love to have any conversations you’d want, either in comments or on Twitter. Let’s enjoy some footy today!
